Rain has been welcomed across the country, with grass growth slowly turning the corner to get back to normal levels over the next number of weeks.
While grass growth will return, replacing fodder already fed will be more difficult. The advice is to grow as much grass as you can over the next few weeks and manage accordingly to prolong the grazing period, especially on drier farms.
If you have to source fodder, doing so as locally as possible makes sense. The final piece of advice is for breeding herds to scan earlier and offload any passengers as early as possible to reduce grass and fodder demand. A late spring in 2027 could compound any fodder issues, so it’s important to act early if you think there will be shortages on your farm.
