This week Darren Carty delves into the 2025 finances of Tullamore farm, the Irish Farmers Journal beef and sheep demonstration farm in Co Offaly.
The farm delivered a profit of €30,000 in 2025. This comes in after paying a land rent charge of €36,750 and a wage bill of €80,000. The ethos of the farm is to demonstrate how a technically efficient farm can deliver a positive margin.
While the farm gained from increased output prices in 2025, there was also an effort to reduce costs on the farm and farm manager Shaun Diver deserves huge credit for the 2025 performance.
Despite the record output prices in 2025, scheme income is still critical.
This highlights the impact that a 22% cut to a CAP budget could have on farm incomes in the future.
