With breeding now in full swing, things are still very busy on Tullamore Farm this week.

There are currently 37 out of 86 cows bred after two weeks of breeding. In the heifer group, 34 heifers have been bred out of the total number of 51 after three weeks of breeding.

Any heifer not bred by Friday evening will get estrumate to bring them into heat. The Salers bull will be turned out with the heifer group next week.

Grass

Grass growth has increased again to over 80kg DM/ha/day for the past seven days, growing way in excess of the demand figure of 57kg DM/ha/day.

This meant that 17 bales were taken out of paddocks this week.

A further three bulls were slaughtered this week. They graded a U-3-, R+3- and a U=3= and averaged 373.8kg carcase weight at an average age of 14 months. They averaged €1,387 each. It will be two to three weeks before the next draft of bulls is ready.

Lambs are due to get their first worm dose next week.
