Earlier this week, Claas held a number of dealer demonstrations of its new generation of Lexion straw walker combines. The revamped five- and six-straw-walker series replaces the 600 series machines. Featured in the video below is the new Lexion 5500 with the Convio 770 header working in difficult conditions in Wexford.

All new models boast the same upgrades as the hybrid 7000/8000 series, with the main upgrade being the new APS Synflow threshing system (26% larger than the drum on the outgoing 600 range).

Grain tank sizes range from 9,000l to 13,500l, with unloading times and operator access improved. Like the new hybrid machines, the new walker models have an updated cab, control arm and touchscreen Cebis.

The new straw walker models are powered by either MAN or Merc engines ranging from 313hp to 507hp. Models feature Dynamic Power engine management, adjusting power output relative to load.

Crop intake

Cemos Auto Threshing is capable of adjusting threshing and separation dependent on the grain quality camera and Quantimeter. Auto Crop Flow at the same time monitors crop flow through the walkers and the secondary separation system, restricting crop intake should it detect a blockage.

Updates have been made in terms of drive systems and clutches. A new straight driveline design reduces power losses and the number of belts. All models are fitted with 40km/h transmissions with larger tyre options available than before.
