Frequent heavy showers on Friday morning will become isolated during the afternoon, with sunny spells developing.

Westerly winds will be moderate to fresh, with temperatures of between 7°C and 10°C during the afternoon.

Met Éireann has said that temperatures will fall overnight on Friday to between 4°C and 6°C, with mostly moderate west to southwest winds. Further scattered showers will mostly affect the north of the country. Elsewhere will see long dry and clear spells, with mist thickening to fog.

Towards morning, it will become cloudy, with patches of drizzle arriving on western coasts.

Saturday

Saturday will be a generally rather cloudy day, with patchy rain and drizzle in the morning, Met Éireann has said.

A moderate westerly wind will back southerly and will increase to become strong ahead of a spell of rain arriving on western coasts by evening. The rain is forecast to turn heavy and spread eastwards. Temperatures during Saturday will range between 9°C and 11°C, and will rise by a couple of degrees in the early part of the night.

Met Éireann said that on Saturday night the rain will be heavy for a time before clearing in the first half of the night to scattered showers, mostly affecting coasts of the west and north.

Temperatures will fall again to between 4°C and 6° C by dawn. Winds will be fresh westerly, strong on the coasts.

Sunday

On Sunday, fresh to strong west to southwest winds are forecast to reach gale force along coasts. High seas of between 10m and 12m are expected along western coasts between Mizen Head and Erris Head, with over-topping at the coasts bringing the risk of coastal flooding around high tide in the afternoon.

There'll be widespread heavy showers on Sunday, according to Met Éireann, merging to bring longer spells of rain at times in the north.

Temperatures in the afternoon will be 6°C or 7°C (higher at coasts), with little change in temperature overnight on Sunday night.

Next week

Looking to next week and Monday is forecast to be mainly dry, with sunshine developing. Current indications show widespread showers are forecast on Tuesday, with colder weather on Wednesday.
