Monday will start off with bright spells, but it will be a generally dull and overcast day with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning heavy in places later, Met Éireann has said.

There will be mist and fog in parts too, in light southerly breezes. Highest temperatures will range from 5°C in the north to 10°C in the southwest.

Monday night will be wet and misty, with some heavy falls of rain.

A status yellow rainfall warning is in place from 9pm for Connacht, Longford, Louth, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan.

Minimum temperatures on Monday night will range between 2°C and 8°C and it will be coldest in Ulster.

Winds will be light and variable for much of the night, before increasing moderate to fresh southwesterly over the southern half of the country towards morning, Met Éireann said.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be a very wet day nationwide, Met Éireann has said, with heavy spells of rain, possibly turning wintry at times in the north.

Spot flooding is likely, it warned, with low cloud and mist too. It will be rather cold across the northern half of the country, with highest temperatures ranging from 4°C to 8°C in light variable breezes.

It will be less cold across the southern half of Ireland, with highest temperatures of 8°C to 11°C in moderate to fresh southwest breezes.

Scattered outbreaks of rain are forecast after dark, with localised wintry falls.

Frost and ice will set in too, especially across the northern half of Ireland, Met Éireann has said. Lowest temperatures on Tuesday night will range from -2°C to 5°C, in light to moderate north to northeast breezes.

Wednesday

Outbreaks of rain are forecast on Wednesday, possibly turning to sleet and snow at times in moderate northeast winds.

Met Éireann has said it will be cold, with highest temperatures of only 2°C to 4°C generally, but ranging between 4°C and 6°C across southern counties.

Thursday and Friday

Current indications from Met Éireann suggest Thursday and Friday will be cold with sunny spells and scattered showers, some wintry.

There will be an added wind chill factor by day, with frost and possibly ice developing after dark.
