Farming forecast

Rain

There has been a split in rainfall between the east and the west of the country. The west has seen above average rainfall, while the east has seen below average.

“Most of Connacht saw above average rainfall. The highest amount of 30.6mm was recorded at Knock Airport, which is 124% of the average for late March. In contrast, only 4.5mm of rain fell at Johnstown Castle, which is only 26% of the average,” Met Éireann said.

Although the coming week is expected to be dry in most parts of the country, the northwest is still expected to receive up to 30mm of rain.

Field conditions

Field conditions are expected to improve this week but while most fields in the east of the country are trafficable, poorly drained soils remain saturated.
