Met Éireann has forecast that it will become relatively warm from midweek on, with above normal temperatures.

Monday night

Many areas will be dry, with variable cloud cover, but some patchy light rain or drizzle will occur. It will be cool, with light to moderate northerly breezes. Lowest temperatures will range from 5°C to 8°C.

Tuesday

Any early morning mist or drizzle will clear and it will become mainly dry, with bright or sunny spells developing in many areas, especially in the east and south. It will still be quite cool in the west and northwest, with maximum temperatures of 12°C to 15°C, but warmer elsewhere, with values of 15°C to 18°C, possibly up to 19°C in the southeast. Winds will be light to moderate and north to northeast in direction.

Wednesday to Friday

Current indications are that it will be quite warm and mostly dry, with sunny intervals and just a few scattered showers. Daytime temperatures will reach the low 20s in many areas, but it will be cooler on coasts, with sea breezes. Winds will be mostly light to moderate east to northeast, fresh at times on the southeast coast.

Next weekend

Early indications suggest that it will remain warm and mostly dry, with some sunshine.

Farming forecast

Rain

It has been mainly dry over the last week, with rainfall amounts varying between almost zero over central areas to about 10mm along parts of the west and south coast. Dry conditions will continue until this evening. A slow-moving front was expected to affect the western half of the country from Saturday night or Sunday morning with potentially a lot of rain on Monday on the west coast. The east will only get a little rain. Drier conditions will follow for the rest of the week countrywide, with just the odd shower.

Temperatures

Mean air temperatures for the past week have averaged out between 0.7°C and 1.4°C below normal. However, many parts of the country will keep above mean temperatures for the week ahead. Western coastal regions will probably be cooler. Soil temperatures are a little above average at the moment countrywide.

Sunshine

Sunshine has been above average over the past week. Sunshine should be above average in the week ahead.

Drying conditions

There will be good drying in many areas over the next few days, but drying will be poor due to rainfall on Sunday and Monday, especially in the west. It will improve again from Tuesday.

Spraying

Saturday and Sunday were breezy and a bit damp, Monday is expected to be good in the east and poor in the west and rest of the week mainly good everywhere.

Field conditions

Field conditions have improved but with the heavy rainfall expected Sunday into Monday they will deteriorate in the west.
