What's coming up for auction?

The back-end burst is in full swing as a large quantity of land has come for auction over the last three weeks. This is set to continue until the last of the auctions in early November. Over 60 auctions took place from mid-September to early October, with a further 15 over the last week. The next three weeks will see more of the same. Irish Country Living looks at what’s coming up for auction across the country.

Springfield House, Sixmilebridge, Co Clare

An exceptional holding, the guide is heavily influenced by the presence of the commanding 5,000 sq ft house, which is described as “a trophy residence”. The farm also contains an extensive range of farm buildings and yard area, as well as 28 loose boxes. The lands are of a very good quality and have extensive road frontage onto two roads. Interest has been strong so far for the property. It is an executor’s sale.

Coolnagun, Lismacaffrey,Co Westmeath

Offered in six lots; circa 114 acres is in grass while 58 acres is in forestry. The forestry is mostly spruce with some hardwoods and is 20 years old. The land in permanent pasture here is described by the auctioneer as very good grazing ground. There is a four-bay shed and yard on the property, with a residence that’s in need of total refurbishment.

Bogganstown, Drumreen, Co Meath

A nice package, this holding contains a farmhouse with a yard area. The land is good quality and is currently in permanent pasture. It is all in one block and presented in circa 10 paddocks.

Belgard and Farrandum, Kilcock, Co Kildare

A super residential farm, it is primly located circa 5km from Kilcock and the M4. Offered in five lots, the first lot contains a traditional residence in need of refurbishment. The second and third lots contain some top-quality land in permanent pasture. The fourth lot is a combination of lot two and three. Also offered on the day is a residence on an acre at Clonagh near Maynooth. This is guided at €350,000.

Ballygortha, Summerhill, Co Meath

A manageable package, this holding encompasses 16 acres and comes with a haybarn and a yard. Laid out in two fields, it would be suited to a residence pending the relevant planning permission. All in grass, it is good grazing ground.

Friarhill and Man O’War, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow

Situated off the Dunlavin to Hollywood Road, the farm is laid out in a number of divisions with mature timber boundaries and hedgerows. The entire farm is well fenced and has been well farmed. The farmyard includes facilities for 150 head with a small slatted unit, cubicle shed, seven-span haybarn and a straw bedded shed with sheep handling facilities and dip trough. There is private and mains water on the property and there is also a two storey derelict farmhouse.

Rourke’s Cross, Foukhills, Co Wexford

Currently in permanent pasture, this holding is offered in two lots. The first is a 5.2-acre holding and the second is a 26-acre parcel. It is an executor’s sale. The land has been rented for the last few years and kept in good condition, according to Carton.

Kill East and Painstown Kill, Co Kildare

Located in close proximity to Kill, Straffan and Naas, this holding is regarded as top quality by auctioneer Clive Kavanagh. Laid out in five divisions, it has substantial road frontage.

Screhan, Windgap, Co Kilkenny

Located in a good agricultural area, this holding is a 63-acre residential farm. Regarded as good grazing ground, it has been rented by a dairy farmer in recent years and has been well maintained. The farm is not in one block and for this reason there is flexibility in terms of the lots offered. It is currently all in grass.

Rathellan, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow

This is a top-quality tillage farm encompassing over 50 acres. All in one block and in one field, it has been in tillage for years. An executor’s sale, the farm is located in close proximity to both Bagenalstown and Leighlinbridge, with road frontage onto two roads, ensuring good accessibility.
