Met Éireann has issued a yellow wind warning for Donegal, Mayo and Galway to take effect from Saturday 27 March at 5pm.

“Southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50km/h to 65 km/h with gusts of up to 100 km/h,” the weather forecaster said.

“Onshore winds will bring a risk of wave overtopping.”

Elsewhere in the country, the weather has turned cold in places with anecdotal reports of some snow in the ground in midland counties.

This cold spell is likely to have a knock-on effect on some farmer plans to let stock out of sheds for the spring grazing period.

Farmers are also reminded that the clocks go forward to mark summer time on Sunday 28 March.
