Bale pink for breast cancer awareness is the message for farmers around the country as the #PinkBales campaign in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland is back once again.

Head of retail at Dairygold John O'Carroll said: “The campaign is about raising awareness of breast cancer across rural Ireland, as well as raising much-needed funds for vital breast cancer research and support services across the country. The support to date from farmers nationwide has been incredible.”

Dairygold’s pink wrap is now available in Co-Op Superstores across Munster and online at www.coopsuperstores.ie. Glanbia’s special edition pink Mastercrop Agristretch silage wrap can be bought in all their stores nationwide.

More than €75,000 has been raised in the last three years by Glanbia and Dairygold from the campaign and pink bales during silage season are now a constant reminder to people in rural Ireland to get screened.

Wrapping it pink is back for 2018.

Farmers are encouraged to share photos and videos of their pink bales on social media using the hashtag #PinkBales and, this year, Glanbia Agribusiness will award a range of prizes for the best photos or videos received through social media.

Commenting on the initiative last year, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland Aisling Hurley said: “We greatly value the pink bales campaign, as it highlights and makes people more aware of the importance of taking their breast health seriously.”

Dairygold is “proud to be pink partners of the Irish Cancer Society and look forward to another successful Wrap It Pink campaign this summer,” said John O'Carroll.

Commenting on the initiative, Kilkenny camogie star and Glanbia business manager Niamh Bambrick said: “Breast cancer has touched the lives of so many farming families and as a sports person I’m delighted to support Glanbia’s pink bales campaign. Farmers get the chance to raise funds that support pioneering research efforts across Ireland for breast cancer while raising awareness of good breast health among women of all ages.”
