Ireland’s largest pharmaceuticals manufacturer, Chanelle, will create 175 new roles at its headquarters in Loughrea, Co Galway. The company develops and produces pharmaceuticals for human and veterinary consumption.

The new jobs will come under a €70 investment to expand the company’s manufacturing capacity and invest in product development.

Michael Burke, founder and managing director, said Chanelle said the “investment will double production capacity at our Loughrea plant to ensure we can meet the global demand”.

Recruiting for the new roles will start in January 2017, specifically graduates in science, quality, regulatory, engineering, sales and marketing.

Chanelle employs 375 people across Ireland, the UK, Jordan and India. Employee figures in Ireland alone increased by over 200 in the last five years.

Global exports

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny visited the Co Galway facility to announce the plans.

Chanelle holds 1,700 animal health licences registered in the EU, which is the largest number of any company in the EU and 500 licences outside the EU.

The company, which was set up in 1985, exports to over 80 countries worldwide with key markets in the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East.

Building for the new 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility will start within the next month and will create 45 construction jobs.
