Though numbers in the cattle section were down, the quality of the animal was of the highest order, with a very large crowd turning up to enjoy the celebrations

In the Charolais section, judge David Erskine tapped out John Regan’s bull calf as his champion. This September-born bull, Liscally Magic ET out of Liscally Blossom and Balmyle Vagabond went on to take reserve interbreed champion. Reserve Charolais went to Noel and Ian Maxwell’s Deeleview Lady ET, a maiden heifer out of Blelack Digger.

The Moiled Pedigree Championship went to Seamus Homes, with his heifer Dungallia Bean An Ti. Judge on the day was Judith Baxter from Newtownstewart. This very stylish heifer is no stranger to success having won the Junior Moiled Championship in Balmoral earlier this year.

Commercial

Ryan Law was the man in charge in the Commercial ring. The first competition was for the title of Smyths Daleside Feeds Champion Calf and went to Victor and Luke Barnett’s heifer calf, with Anthony Sweeney’s BBX calf as reserve. This was the first day out for most of these calves and we can expect to see a lot more of them over the summer.

The journey from Sligo was well worth the trip for Ollie Walsh, who had a very successful day with his beef Bullock Christie. This very smart bullock out of Carmen Cantona and a blue dam won the Baby Beef Championship, the Best LimousinX animal and went on to be reserve commercial champion.

The commercial champion was no stranger to the show ring having picked up many rosettes last year. Roy and Clive Stevenson’s Charolais X heifer out of Fury Action and a Limousin dam won the Dawn Meats Baby Beef Class, the best Charolais animal, the commercial champion and was finally tapped out as overall interbreed champion.
