The judge on the day was Pat Feehily from Athlone, Co Roscommon. Pat is the owner of the Ash Grove herd. Officiating as auctioneer was George Candler.

The sale produced a clearance rate of 85%. The average price was €3,160, with a top price of €4,600.

Breed secretary Paul Sykes said after the sale: “We had a good sale here today with a strong clearance rate and a significant increase in the price on the corresponding sale of 2015, which is very pleasing. We had a good steady trade with purchasers willing to spend on quality lots.”

Top prices

Taking the top price on the day of €4,600 was Shannon Jethro, whose owner Sarah McElligot had her long journey from Listowel, Co Kerry rewarded. Jethro is a Roundhill Saturn son and his dam Shannon Filly is by Fieldson Alfy. Jethro was awarded first prize in the pre-sale show.

The second highest price was €4,450 for Galbally J-1048, bred by Trevor Masterson from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. J-1048 is sired by Bavardage and his dam Galbally Fabia Is a Wilodge Tonka daughter. He was a second-prize winner in the pre-sale show.

Taking the title of champion in the pre-sale show was Sheehills Jumbo ET bred by John Searson from Roscrea, Co Tipperary. Jumbo is a September 2014-born Ampertaine Elgin son of Sheehils Dawn, a Ronick Hawk dam. Jumbo was sold for €4,100.

At €3,900 was Roundhill Jman, bred by Tim and Doreen Corridan from Fedamore, Co Limerick. He was sired by Hinz PP, a polled bull from Germany. His dam Roundhill Briviere 987 ET is a Nelson daughter. Jman was a third-prize winner in the pre-sale show.

The reserve champion went to Tandeagee Jaffa, bred by Malachy Hennessy from Enfield, Co Meath. Jaffa is a Castleview Gringo son born in November 2014. Jaffa was sold for €3,200.

Tullyridge Jacob, bred by Brendan Crawley from Castlerea, Co Roscommon, sired by Gortermorne Gordon, a Sympa son, sold for €3,600.

Roundhill Java, bred by Tim and Doreen Corridan from Fedamore, Co Limerick, sired by Bonux, sold for €3,400.

Farmleigh Junior ET, bred by Thomas Swaine from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, sired by Ampertaine Commander, sold for €3,200.

Lavalla Joe, bred by Kevin Crowley from Ennis, Co Clare, sired by Vision, sold for €3,100.

Mullaghboy Irene, bred by Matthew Fee from Corrawallen, Co Leitrim, sired by Ardlea Dan (her dam Mullaghboy Gila, a Milbrook Tanko daughter), was sold for €1,850. Irene is in calf to Castleview Gazelle.
