Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed this week issued a timely press release urging farmers to prioritise farm safety.
A combination of good weather, increased activity in farmyards and schools holidays all combine make this time of year a particularly high-risk period. Farm safety needs to become a regular discussion around the kitchen table – children need to know the dangers and farmers need to realise that by not taking farm safety seriously they could be cheating their family out of a father, mother brother or sister. The Embrace Farm accident remembrance service takes place this Sunday in Abbeyleix at 2pm. It serves as a poignant reminder of the impact that a family farm accident can have.
