Milk production in Ireland is running at record levels due to good grass growth and a larger herd.

April to June milk intake up 10%
Domestic milk intake by Irish creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 727.4m litres for June 2014, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). This was 3.8% above the corresponding 2013 figure.
Based on the CSO figures, milk supply in the first three months of the milk quota year (April to June) was 10% ahead of last year and 5% up on the same period in 2012. Milk intake peaked in May at a record 785m litres – 7% higher than the 2012 and 2013 level.

Butter production in June was up 9.7% on last year to 19,300 tonnes. The CSO also reports that total milk sold for human consumption decreased by 0.5% to 38.9m litres.
