European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis has told the Irish Farmers Journal that the conclusion of an review of Brazilian meat imports would be available next month.

“At the moment, we are on the way to conclude our audit, which was done between 2-16 May”, he said. The audit followed the launch of a vast police investigation into widespread alleged fraud including mislabelling and corruption in the Brazilian meat industry two months ago.
“We will send our outcomes to the Brazilian authorities to hear their replies. Final decisions will be made in two weeks.”
