Budget to cut cost of transport of farm and food goods

Vehicles transporting farm goods will be subject to lower tax rates next year.

There are significant reductions in commercial motor tax, especially for larger trucks, in Budget 2016.

The number of commercial motor tax bands drops from 20 to five and there will be a cut in the commercial motor tax rate of up to €4,295 on larger trucks over 12t laden weight. There will be five commercial tax rates: €92, €333, €420, €500 and the top rate of €900, which previously was €5,195.

This is a significant transport cost-cutting initiative that should help the food exporting and distribution businesses of many farm and food companies.
