The number of dairy serves was up 48,375 compared with the same date in 2016. There were 498,702 serves to the end of June 2017 compared with 450,327 to the end of June 2016.
These figures were recorded on dairy handheld serves.
There was also an increase of 6% in beef AI handheld serves recorded on the dairy herd.

Beef AI serves
The number of beef AI serves recorded on a handheld device has remained stable, with a 1% increase on this time last year.
At the end of June 2016, 85,279 serves were recorded, with figures at the end of June 2017 showing 84,942.
Numbers
The number of beef cows reduced by just over 13,400 (1.32%) since the same time last year. The total number of beef cows is now 1,004,334.
In contrast, an increase of 2.2% was seen in the dairy herd, with the population now rising by 32,302.
