Do not raid CAP budget for humanitarian crises - McGuinness
Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says efforts to take money from the CAP budget for use in humanitarian crises must resisted and that financing for problems like Ebola must be found elsewhere.

MEP Mairead McGuinness has called on Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan to resist the " unacceptable raid on the CAP budget" by the outgoing Commission for use in humanitarian crisis situations. The decision could result in the agriculture crisis reserve being limited to €88 million for 2015, according to the MEP.
McGuinness said: "The CAP budget must be defended, not raided, and it is up to Commissioner Hogan to hit the ground running with a full defence of the budget,"

She added: "We do not know what problems will emerge next year for which we will need access to this crisis fund.
"The money diverted from agriculture is for use in humanitarian crisis situations and for preventing the spread of Ebola, all worthy causes, deserving of financial support, but this additional financing should be found elsewhere, not by raiding the CAP budget which is already restrictive in nature."
