The figures show the increased exports represented 7.2% of the total trade with third countries and that the most exported product categories were alcoholic beverages (spirits, wine, etc) and wheat. Exports of infant food, flour, starch or milk preparations experienced the highest increase compared with 2013, and were up 23%.

The figures show the EU's top destinations for its agri-food exports in 2014 were the United States (total trade value worth €310,879m) followed by China (€164,732m) and Russia (€103,295m).

The most imported products to the EU in that year were tropical fruits - fresh or dried - nuts and spices, as well as unroasted coffee and tea in bulk. Imports of cocoa beans increased by 17% compared with 2013, which represents the highest increase among imported product categories.

The biggest import destination for the EU last year was Brazil, followed by the US and Argentina.
