The Irish Cancer Society, the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) and the Construction Industry Federation have teamed up to urge farmers to be SunSmart and cover up to avoid sunburn. This week alone, temperatures are set to hit as high as 20°C with bright sunshine.
The warning comes as new research from the British Cancer Journal showed that almost one in four (23%) deaths from skin cancer in Ireland come from either the construction of agriculture industries.
Those in the construction sector diagnosed with skin cancer had the highest rate of deaths at four in 10, while farmers diagnosed with skin cancer represent two in 10 deaths.
