Food Standard Scotland (FSS)has launched a consultation into the transferring over competence for animal feed law from local authorities.

FSS is proposing a centralised model as the only feasible option available.

However they are seeking local authorities to deliver inspections on a regional basis.

Food Standard Scotland said: “The current system is not working effectively and the proposals that we are consulting on are intended to streamline the delivery function and bring greater assurance and protection to the feed and food chain.”

Food Standards Scotland is expecting to implement the new model for early 2018/2019.
