Kerry Group decided this Wednesday to hold its milk price at 23.8c/litre excluding VAT at 3.3% protein and 3.6% fat, a co-op representative told the Irish Farmers Journal.

Glanbia, too, has left its December price unchanged at 23.7c/l excluding VAT for co-op members at 3.3% protein and 3.6% fat. This includes the base price of 22.75c/l paid by Glanbia Ingredients Ireland (GII) and the 0.95c/l added by Glanbia co-op for members who have signed a milk supply agreement, all exclusive of VAT.

Lakeland Dairies is also holding its base milk price for December at 24.8c/l excluding VAT at equivalent fat and protein content, as was confirmed on Tuesday. The co-op has held this price since August.

Farmgate milk price

The latest value of the Ornua purchase price index (PPI) is equivalent to a farmgate milk price of 24.6c/litre including VAT, but excluding processing costs.

The PPI of dairy commodities dropped by 1.8% for December 2015, standing at 86.6.

The index is calculated from the price of dairy commodities sold by Ornua, including butter, cheese, whole milk powder and protein products.
