Anger levels have continued to rise at Glanbia over the price it is offering for milk and grain.

Both the September milk price, cut by 1c/litre, and the €130/t for green barley are supported by co-op top-up payments. However, the IFA has said that shareholder subvention of sub-par prices ‘‘is not an option’’.

Glanbia is Ireland's largest processor of milk and purchaser of grain. Glanbia Ingredients Ireland is the only processor to cut its September milk price, and the grain division is being accused of being €5-€10/t below other merchants for cereals.

Glanbia points to forward pricing options it has developed in both cases that allow farmers to manage market and price volatility.

The IFA met Glanbia to discuss grain price on Tuesday, and the two parties are due to meet today (Thursday) on milk price, with a growing gap between both sides.
