Greenhills Dairies, run by the Browne family in Killeagh, Co. Cork, is looking for a senior herdsperson for its 1,000-head dairy farm business.

The farm consists of 1,000 dairy cows on a spring calving grass-based system. There are 380 maiden heifers and 300 dairy heifer calves in the herd. Some 20 stock bulls are used for the maiden heifers.

Calving starts in January and finishes in April while 100% AI is used on the milking herd. The cows are milked with a Dairymaster Rotary.

All silage work is contracted apart from the mowing and raking – which the farm carries out itself – while all fertiliser and slurry spreading is carried out by the farm, according to the job specification.

Calves are reared on automated calf feeders and bull calves are sold as soon as possible.

Moomintors are used on the herd for herd health and heat detection, Agrinet for grassland management and Herdwatch to record treatments and calf registrations.
