In pictures: 15 acres of potatoes lost in Donegal flooding
A Donegal farmer, who lost 15 acres of potatoes in this week’s flooding atrocity, said he hopes the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed addresses the problem.
Christopher Duffy, a tillage farmer from Buncrana, told the Irish Farmers Journal that he hopes in light of the current situation, Minister Creed will lobby the Government for flood relief measures to assist people in the northwest.
Two of Duffy’s potato fields were submerged in a meter of water, as the River Crana burst its banks.

“The fields were completely covered, it has subsided now. It is not looking good, but we might be able to salvage two or three acres,” he said.
He added that most people living locally are still reeling from Tuesday night’s floods, but a lot of community spirt has been shown.
“Neighbours and the farming community have been pulling together. Everybody is in the same boat, if they haven’t lost crops, it is animals, fencing or fodder. Everyone here has their own story to tell,” he said.
Torrential rain that fell earlier this week caused devastation in much of Donegal, Derry and Tyrone, where many fields are now covered in silt and roads are still impassable.
