Temperatures up to 26°C did not deter passion driven exhibitors making the journey to the Curraheen showgrounds for the 2016 Cork summer show.

In total, 220 cattle were on display at the show, with championships in each section hard to come by.

With a points system in place for the interbreed championship, it meant every judge had their say on which animal was the deserving winner. In the dairy ring, the winner was the Holstein champion Laurelelm Seaver Coll.

Bred and exhibited by Ricky Barrett, Tougher, this five year old already claimed overall champion at Belgooly earlier this month. Classified EX92, Seaver Coll gave 11,000kg in her lactation of 3.49% protein.

Reserve dairy interbreed went to the days dairy Shorthorn champion Ransbaro Cressida 46th from Allen Carter. This fifth calver is no stranger to success having also secured the championship at Cork show back in 2015.

Classified EX91 after two evaluations from a mother of EX classification also, Cressida is expected to give 9,200kg of 4.86% fat and 3.8% protein in her current lactation.

Onto the beef interbreed, and popular showman Bobby O’Connell was out on top with his Limousin champion Roundhill Iondine.

O'Connell is a relatively new entrant to the Limousin showing circles has achieved much success from the outset, with numerous championships already under his belt. The three-year old Iodine is sired by Elite Forever Brill and was shown with her February calf at foot.

Securing reserve in the Limousin ring was Donal Moloney with Ardnacrusha Kylie. This Sympa sired 18-month old heifer secured a number of championships last year and secured second to the overall at Balmoral last month.

Simmental

Top honours in the Simmental ring went to the very stylish two-year old, Corbally Goddess. Bred by James Browne, Glanworth, the sire behind Goddess was old favourite Hillcrest Champion.

Nigel Hogan collected the reserve honours with Kilbride Farm Delboy's daughter Rathnashan Harper Et.

Albert and Jennifer De Cogan were again on winning form with Cheeklaw Jake Eric in the Angus ring.

This 10,000gns Stirling champion secured a number of championships already this year including Midleton, Belgooly and Clonakilty.

Carbery Nicole from Keith and Luke Vickery was in to scoop the reserve championship.

This September 2016-born heifer is sired by Goulding Jumbo King and has secured a number of red rosettes but this marks her first championship.

A well-sponsored Hereford section at Gorey show led to a drop in numbers at Cork however, classes remained well contested with quality throughout. Tom Roycroft was out on top in this section with his six year-old cow Springvilla Miriam.

Sired by homebred Springvilla Rolan, she was shown alongside her September heifer calf who also secured a red ribbon on the day.

John Nennan brought his stock bull all the way from Broadford for the days showing and got duly rewarded.

The four year-old Clondrina 1069 TH was awarded reserve overall champion on his first day out of the year.

His sire was Ballina Gilbert.

Blues

Last week’s reserve male interbreed champion at Clonakilty show was again on form in the Belgian Blue ring.

Forenaught Ice from John Cahalane added another to his haul of championships this summer when he was tapped out as overall Blue champion. Born in September 2014, Ice is sired by Elegant.

Reserve honours went to Richard Stanley of Brownview Blues with Brownview KingKong. This September 2016-born bull is sired by Sauver and is a full brother to the 2015 Tullamore champion.

Finally, coming out on top of the Commercial ring was James and Noel McSweeney's two year-old Limousin bullock Black Bandit. This bull has already secured a number of commercial championship including Bandon and Clonakilty.
