Prominent sheep farmers Gordon and Yvonne Johnston, from Tyrrellspass in Co Westmeath held a very successful flock clearance sale last Saturday in Tullamore Mart.

Mart manager Antoinette Daly reported a packed ringside in attendance with buyers from Dublin, Galway, Leitrim, Laois and Offaly, to name a few, competing with a strong attendance of farmers from Westmeath.

The 300-head flock, bred with Texel and Lleyn genetics, were a mixture of one-, two-, three- and four-year-olds.

The quality was such that there was very little variation in prices paid with the majority of ewes selling within a price range of €180 and €205 while the top price on the day was €221.

This was received for a pen of top-quality hogget ewes.
