Four weather warnings for today have been issued by Met Éireann. The status orange rainfall warning for Wicklow, Galway, Cork, Kerry and Waterford that was issued on Monday will come into effect from today (Tuesday) at noon. It is due to remain in place until tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon. There is also an orange wind warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry that will come into effect at noon today and will remain vaild until one minute to midnight this evening.

There is a yellow rainfall warning in place for Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and all Leinster except Wicklow. This warning is due to remain in place until tomorrow at noon. Finally, a yellow wind warning is in place in Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, valid until 6am on Wednesday.

As indicated by the weather warnings, it will become very windy by afternoon today, with strong to gale force and gusty southerly winds. It will become extremely windy along Atlantic coasts as Storm Frank tracks northwards off the west coast. Heavy rain will push into the southwest and west in the afternoon and spread eastwards during the evening. Afternoon temperatures will be between 7°C and 11°C. Tonight will be very wet and windy with widespread rain turning heavy. Southerly winds will be strong to gale force and gusty at first, but decrease fresh to strong in the western half of the country by morning. It will be mild with lowest temperatures staying around 8°C to 10°C.
