The board of Lakeland Co-op met on Tuesday night and held its milk price unchanged at 29.67c/l excluding VAT in the Republic. In Northern Ireland, the price remains unchanged too, at 25p/l.

The Lakeland price has been stable since the latest increase applied to January milk.

This is in line with Ornua’s purchase price index (PPI), which has remained virtually unchanged since the start of this year.

Accounts published last week showed that Lakeland’s operating profits halved last year as the co-op supported the price paid to its milk suppliers.

The IFA has said there was cause for “optimism” as co-ops set milk prices for the peak production period.
