The normal rate is two to three tonnes/acre, but those on heavy land shouldn’t exceed 2t/acre in one application.

There are two types of lime: dolomite (magnesium-based) and calcium-based ground limestone. The dolomite lime can be cheaper to buy but it is slower to work than calcium-based lime and doesn’t work well in soils that are slightly low in pH (eg pH 6) as the rock particles need to be in very acidic soils to break down.
