The sale, which took place at Lanark mart south of Edinburgh, saw over 180 ram lambs offered for sale with an average price of £4,229 on the day (€4,754).

The sale-topper, the £85,000 ram lamb, was bred by Willie Dunlop and his sons Quentin and William from Dunbar. The ram was bought by H and A Blackwood Auldhouseburn and JP Campbell and sons from Glenrath in southern Scotland.

This is not the first time the Dunlops have hit the headlines for breeding a ram which made a large money at a sale.

In October 2015, Willie, Quentin and William had a Blackface ram lamb which sold for £160,000 (€179,869).
