Farmers should continue to be vigilant of the threat of nematodirus following last week’s warning. High-risk categories are lambs aged six to 12 weeks of age, or younger lambs under nutritional stress and grazing in greater frequency. White drenches are recommended for treatment by the advisory group, to maintain efficacy of the product and reduce the risk of anthelmintic resistance.

Tagging lambs

Young lambs traded with ewes in marts need to be tagged with at least a permanent tag with NSIS rules stating that all animals must be tagged by nine months of age or on leaving the holding if this occurs first.
