Tractor drivers should pull over to let cars pass on the road where possible, An Garda Síochána advise.
Garda inspector Eddie Golden has called on tractor drivers to pull in to allow traffic behind them to pass and prevent drivers getting frustrated.
“If you don’t pull in and give people right of way they will get frustrated and will try to overtake in places that are not appropriate,” he warned. “If you don’t you are actually adding to the [road safety] problem so always be mindful of where you could pull in to let people pass.”

Incorrect overtaking
Inspector Golden was speaking at the IFA trailer safety event in Cahir Mart on Monday, which drew a crowd of 200 farmers.
He said most road collisions involving tractors occurred when a car was overtaking a tractor that was turning left or right.
“We all have to share the road,” he told farmers.
“Members of the public then have to hold back when necessary and make sure everyone is safe.”
