Last week’s sale at Rathfriland Mart saw another strong entry of stock. There were over 100 dropped calves on offer, which once again were met with a flying trade.
Top-quality calves sold to £580 each for a group of Angus, while others ranged mainly from £285 to £420.
There were about 100 weanlings on offer also, with the tops making £920 for 400kg or £2.30/kg. On a per-kilo basis, weanlings sold to a top of £2.81/kg, with the majority of prices ranging from £2.30/kg to £2.64/kg.
Store heifers sold to £2.09/kg for a 426kg Simmental, while suckler heifers sold to £1,210, while others made from £1,000 to £1,140.

There was a good share of Friesian store bullocks on offer also, which sold from £660 for 330kg (£2.00/kg) to £800 for 376kg (£2.12/kg). Fat cows sold to a top price of £960 for 596kg (£1.61/kg), while others made from £140 to £300 along with the weight.
There were 200 fat ewes on offer which made from £70 to £77, with breeders up to £158.
