As we are in late October, it’s time to consider drying off early calving cows or thin and lame cows.
More farmers are talking about selective dry cow therapy for the herd.
The threshold before considering this would be to have a herd with an average SCC of less than 100,000 over the year.
Much higher than this would suggest that the cows not treated with antibiotics would be very exposed to picking up an infection.
When picking cows not to give dry cow therapy to, you should go back over the milk recording reports.
