Fears that ABP had broken ties with Hereford Prime have been quashed, but the Larry Goodman-owned company is sourcing less Hereford cattle for its own feedlots.
Hereford Prime chair Niall O’Mahony said: “ABP now have sufficient farmers producing through Hereford Prime that they don’t need to source as many Hereford cattle for their own feedlots.”
Hereford Prime processes up to 40,000 cattle annually, and pays a seasonal bonus of 10c/kg to 20c/kg for cattle grading O or higher.

“A restructuring of our bonus scheme has resulted in an average reduction of 2c/kg to the off-season bonus,” a spokesman for Hereford Prime said.
“However, the full off-season bonus will now apply to all Hereford cattle up to 380kg carcase weight.”
