Trials of new carcase grading equipment by the Department of Agriculture are soon to get under way at the Slaney Foods plant in Wexford, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.

The trial centres on the addition of the latest digital camera technology to the existing E+V equipment and it will run for much of 2018.

Cattle slaughtered at the plant will continue to be graded as normal by existing equipment.
