As temperatures fall and blizzard conditions impact the country, the Irish Farmers Journal specialist team updates farmers on the latest advice for livestock and farm safety during these difficult weather conditions.

Farmers are already encountering water issues, shelter issues and farm safety problems, especially in the east and south of the country.

Met Éireann forecasters have warned that up to 1m of snow could fall in parts of the east between Thursday and Friday and a status red snow-ice warning is in effect for Munster and Leinster until 6.00pm on Friday.

Blizzard conditions affecting southern and eastern coastal counties are expected to receive exceptionally high accumulations.
