Some 197 landowners will be affected by a compulsory purchase order (CPO) for the 26km Kerry greenway from Glenbeigh to Renard via Cahersiveen, according to Kerry County Council.
Compensation for land purchased has yet to be decided, the council told the Irish Farmers Journal, as planning was still at the pre-application stage.
The council hopes that the greenway will provide a boost for tourism in the area, but a number of farmers have expressed concern that their farmland will be fragmented.

It had been thought that around 130 landowners would be affected, and farmers are calling for an increase in consultation with the council before the CPO is finalised.
