The Department of Agriculture has extended the existing status orange fire warning until next Monday. "A high fire risk remains in all areas where hazardous fine fuels such as gorse, heather, dried crasses and other dead vegetation exists," the danger notice reads.
While scattered light rain and rising ambient humidity levels are expected to moderate the risk in many areas, "a short-term increase in fire risk is likely on Thursday" as temperatures soar again.
Farmers should remain vigilant as dry vegetation can regain flammability in a short time following light rain. "Extreme caution is particularly required where cured shrub fuels like gorse are concerned," the Department warned. Agricultural activities are listed among potential causes of accidental ignition.
