Saturday’s sale at Dowra Mart saw a good entry of sheep on offer. While prices were good, mart manager Terry McGovern said that the sale the previous two weeks was a little stronger than last week. He said that light store lambs were the group that was back most this week.

Ewe lambs were a good trade and sold up to €105/head, while cull ewes sold to €95/head. Crossbred ewes sold from €70 to €75/ head, while cull mountain ewes made from €35 to €50/head.

Demand for stores was fairly good, but not as strong as the same time last year. Terry said that the majority of store lambs made from €60 to €80/head, while mountain-cross and light lambs made from €40 to €55/head.

While prices were a little easier, all the lambs sold, with very few going home.

Terry said that the cattle trade saw good demand for all better-quality types, but plain cattle are still very hard sold.

Weanling bulls from 300kg to 400kg sold to €2.70/kg, with prices averaging from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg, while plain types sold back to €1.80/kg to €1.90/kg.

Stores from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €2.30/kg to €2.40/kg for the better-quality types. Heavy cull cows are still a good trade, according to Terry, with the tops selling to €2.03/kg.
