Over three-quarters of Irish farmers are in favour of a €200 suckler cow payment. Almost two-thirds of farmers would like to see it come from a new fund of money, while 12% are happy for the payment to go ahead even if it means cuts in other payments.

Those in Connacht or Ulster, specialist suckler farmers, and those with suckler and mixed grazing livestock are more in favour of the payment.

That said, almost half of dairy farmers are in favour of a suckler cow payment if it comes from a new fund of money and 12% are in favour of it even if it involves cuts in other payments.

Tillage farmers are also largely in support of it, with 58% saying it needs to come from a new fund.

Those with farms over 60ha are most likely to be against a suckler cow payment.
