While negotiations on the ground resume after the drama of last week's Salzburg EU summit, there are other issues as well as Brexit. The Parliament's Agriculture Committee who visited the Irish Farmers Journal's Tullamore Farm last week, are back at their day job today, meeting this afternoon in Brussels.
The chief economist of the European Commissions's DG Competition, Prof Tommaso Valletti, will present to members a part of the Commission's impact assessment of its proposed regulation of unfair trading practices (UTPs) in the food chain. This study assessed the economic impact of the legislative proposal in question on farmers, processors, retailers and consumers.
UTP proposals launched earlier this year by Commissioner Hogan are making their way through Parliament.

There will also be a much lower-key political gathering this week in Austria, when agriculture ministers meet under the Austrian presidency of the EU. Budget and CAP funding will be a key issue as the pro-CAP countries struggle to get support for maintaining its current budget with extra contributions.
There will be updates throughout the week online and in print on Thursday.
