"In 2019, the Department of Communication, Climate Action and Environment will invest over €164m in targeted measures to achieve Ireland’s energy efficiency and renewable energy objectives," said Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe.

  • Amount: €164m.
  • The funds are allocated to insulation and other grants to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, renewable energy incentives and electric cars.
  • The Support Scheme for Renewable Heat is currently available to install heat pumps and is due to open to biomass boilers in early 2019. The Renewable Electricity Support Scheme is due to hold its first auction next year, but ring-fenced funding for community-based projects such as those of farmers and co-ops will have to wait longer.
  • Minister Donohoe also announced grants for gas-powered vehicles, such as buses and lorries, and their filling stations. A scheme piloted by Gas Networks Ireland plans to use green gas produced on farms in these vehicles.
