With heavy rain forecast over the coming days and very heavy rainfall over the last number of days, widespread housing of cattle in parts of Mayo is expected.
Many parts of Mayo experienced persistent heavy rainfall from Sunday through to Tuesday evening. While the rain was localised to the northwest of the country, it resulted in several road closures due to widespread flooding.
The worst-affected areas were Crossmolina to Bangor, but persistent rain caused short-term flash floods around Ballina also. While ground conditions were very good in the areas prior to the rainfall, it is thought that this combined with heavy rain forecast in the coming week will lead to the widespread housing of cattle on heavy ground.
