A 58-year-old man, understood to be an agri-contractor, was shot and killed in a farmhouse outside Macroom, Co Cork, on Tuesday 23 October.

“At approximately 11:40pm, gardaí were called to the scene of an incident at Raleigh North near Macroom,” a garda statement said.

“A man in his 50s was treated at the scene for an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later.”

Gardaí later arrested a man in his 60s and detained him at Bandon garda station.

Gardaí are said to be investigating all lines of enquiry, but it is thought that a local dispute is linked to the killing.

The body of the man remains at the scene and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
