The 2018 Irish potato crop is set to be the lowest since 2012, estimated at 260,000t.
The recent Bord Bia yield dig report, which was compiled with Teagasc, outlines the effects 2018’s weather had on Rooster and Kerr’s Pink varieties.
It shows average yield reductions of up to 30% in some cases.
The report also detailed how the difference between irrigated and non-irrigated crops was significant in Kerr’s Pink, but not in Rooster.
The study covers much of the country, but excludes crops in Donegal, which had a largely better year than the south.
Potato production is back across all European countries.
