The terms of reference for the forestry study in Co Leitrim have been labelled as “weak” by the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association (INHFA).

Gerry Loftus, climate change spokesperson for the INHFA, told the Irish Farmers Journal last week that the survey will “come up with absolutely nothing”.

“The survey should be about the effects and who it’s affecting, the people, the environment, climate change, water – all of these things,” he said.

Loftus also said he was disappointed with who has been appointed to participate in this survey as regards environmental participation, fisheries and the INHFA – none of whom have been included.
